Typing Speed Test
Type the text as fast and as accurately as you can. The clock starts with your first key.
How it works
- 1Choose the 60-second test or a single passage. You get short proverbs and everyday sentences in random order.
- 2Start typing in the box. Letters turn dark when they're right and red when they're wrong, and the highlighted letter is the next one to type.
- 3When time runs out or the passage is done, you'll see your speed and accuracy. Your best score for each test is kept on this device.
Tips for typing faster
- Accuracy first. Fixing a mistake costs more time than typing a little slower, and speed follows once your fingers stop slipping.
- Watch the text, not your hands. Rest your index fingers on F and J; most keyboards have small bumps there so you can find them by feel.
- Read a word or two ahead, so your fingers already know what's coming.
- Keep an even rhythm instead of bursts and pauses. Steady typing is faster overall.
- On a phone, use both thumbs and turn off auto-correct for the test. It can swap words without asking.
- Sit up, keep your wrists loose and take a short break when your hands feel tense.
Questions
How is WPM calculated?
Every 5 correctly typed characters, spaces included, count as one word, and that's divided by the minutes you typed. Wrong characters don't add to your speed, but they do lower your accuracy.
How is accuracy calculated?
It's the share of characters that were right at the moment you typed them. If you type a wrong letter and then fix it, the slip still counts, so accuracy shows how cleanly you typed, not just how the text ended up.
What's a good typing speed?
Many people type around 35 to 45 WPM on a computer keyboard. Over 60 is fast, and 80 or more is excellent. Phone typing is usually slower, so the best comparison is with your own earlier results.
How are Korean, Japanese and Chinese scored?
Korean is measured in keystrokes per minute: each syllable is split into the keys you press, so 한 counts as three. Japanese and Chinese count finished characters per minute, after conversion.
